Super League Greece or Super League One is the highest professional football league in Greece

The Super League Greece or Super League One is the highest professional football league in Greece. The league was founded on July 16, 2006 and replaced Alpha Ethniki at the head of the Greek football league system. It consists of 14 teams and runs from August to May with teams playing 26 games each. As of September 2019, the Super League Greece ranked 15th in the UEFA Leagues ranking, based on performances at European competitions over the last five years.

Since the formation of the first official Panhellenic championship in 1927, only six clubs have won the title, with the "big three" (Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and AEK Athens) dominating and only PAOK, Aris and AEL managing to dominate on a few occasions break.

The current champions are PAOK based in Thessaloniki, Macedonia, Greece.

Between 1905 and 1912, the Greek Athletics Association (SEGAS) organized a Panhellenic championship. This championship was actually a local tournament among clubs from Athens and Piraeus.

After the Balkan wars and World War I, two football associations were formed, one organizing a football league in Athens and Piraeus, and one doing the same thing in Thessaloniki. These were the Athens-Piraeus-FCA (EPSAP) and the Macedonia-FCA (EPSM). In 1923, a Panhellenic champion was determined by a playoff game between the Athens-Piraeus and the Thessaloniki champion. Peiraikos Syndesmos won 3-1 against Aris Thessaloniki. This Panhellenic final was not repeated the following year, as the EPSAP was split after a dispute in the Athens FCA (EPSA) and the Piraeus FCA (EPSP).

In 1927, a national championship was organized in the form of a round robin tournament between the champions of the three governing bodies. Panathinaikos, Olympiacos and AEK Athens declined to participate, and Aris Thessaloniki won the first title ahead of Ethnikos Piraeus and Atromitos. This national championship was held in 1929 again and developed in the next few years to a tournament in which several teams participated. Nevertheless, these teams had to qualify through their local football competitions for the national championship.

Currently, 16 clubs in the Super League compete against each other in a home and away series. At the end of the season, the two lowest clubs descend into the Football League. In their place, the two best teams in the Football League are promoted. The number of descending teams may change at the end of normal time, depending on licensing procedures.

The Super League is currently eligible for two participants in the Uefa Champions league football. The Super League champions enter directly into the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. The second- to fifth-place teams in the Super League play in a second play-off in Greece. The play-off winner enters the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, a four-legged friend, from which the winner rises in the play-offs of the UEFA Champions League. The winner of the Greek Cup qualifies for the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League.

In the play-offs of the UEFA Champions League, the teams play in the home and away against each other. However, they do not all start with 0 points. Instead, a weighting system applies to the teams that are at the beginning of the play-off mini-league. The team, which occupies the fifth place in the Super League, starts the game with 0 points. The total score of the team with fifth place at the end of the season is used to calculate the sum of points received by other teams. The point difference between the 2nd, 3rd and 4th teams and the fifth team is then divided by five (if the result is a decimal number, it is rounded to a full number, rounding up 5 or more) each team the number of points with which they start the mini-league.

In the 2017/18 season there are no playoffs for the Champions League and the Uefa league football.
