Poland has already participated in eight FIFA World Cups. For the first time, they arrived in 1938 when they left Brazil. The best result of the country is a bronze medal that won Poland in 1974 and 1982. This era is considered the golden era of Polish international football. At the Uefa football European Championship, the best result in Poland was a quarter-final at the 2016 tournament, before losing to Portugal. Overall, they have participated in three European Championships, with their debut in 2008. In addition to Ukraine, they co-hosted the 2012 edition. Overall, the best Polish result in international football tournaments was the gold medal won at the 1972 Munich Olympics and the two-time silver medal. at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and 1992 in Barcelona.
The qualifying group phase draw took place on 2 December 2018 in Dublin, Ireland. The 55 teams were divided into 10 groups: five groups with five teams (groups A - E) and five groups with six teams (groups F - J). Poland finished 10th in the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying Group G in pot 1. Group G consists of six teams: Austria football, Israel, Latvia, North Macedonia, Poland and Slovenia, where they will play at home and against each other in a round-robin format.
The two best teams qualify directly for the final. Unlike previous editions, players in the play-offs will not be decided on the basis of the results of the qualifying group stage but on the basis of their performance in the 2018/1919 UEFA Nations League. In 2018 Poland was drawn in Group 3 in the UEFA Nations League A 2018-19 together with Portugal and Italy football. Poland, which had not survived the shocking World Cup nightmare of 2018, dropped to league B with two home defeats and two away defeats.
Despite this poor performance in the Nations League, Poland opened the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers with a 1-0 win over Austria in Vienna. For this Krzysztof Piątek thanked. Three days later, Poland prevailed with a 2-0 home win against Latvia.
On Friday, June 7, 2019, Poland defeated Northern Macedonia with a staggering 1-0 victory with a single goal from Piątek, which the team criticized for their poor form in that win. On 10 June 2019, Poland showed its best performance to date in the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying campaign, beating Israel 4-0 in front of Israel three days later, with Krzysztof Piątek, Robert Lewandowski, Kamil Grosicki and Damian Kądzior scoring.
Poland continued its quest for the UEFA Euro 2020 through a friendly appearance against small Slovenia and should score three points overall in Ljubljana due to Slovenia's impressive performance. Nevertheless, Poland's trip to Slovenia became a nightmare when the team lost 2-0 away.
