The second football league in Slovakia is called 2nd league

The second league is the secondary football league in Slovakia. There are currently 16 teams in a group of the competition. For two seasons it was known for sponsorship reasons as DOXXbet league.

The league was formed as a second division in Czechoslovakia. Before the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, it consisted of 16 teams. In the dissolution six teams were promoted to the then newly founded Corgoň League. The league has been expanded to 18 teams in the 1996/97 season, 16 in the 2001/02 season and 12 in the 2006/07 season.

For the seasons 2014/2015 and 2015/2016, the league was known under a sponsorship agreement under the name DOXXbet league.

The Slovakian football championship for club teams takes place every year in the so-called Corgoň league 2014. It is the highest division and is sponsored by Nitra-based brewery Corgoň. For the season 2014/15, the Corgoň League was renamed "Fortuna Liga". The first Slovak football league was established in its present form in 1993, when the joint league was discontinued after the end of the covenant with the Czech Republic. The viewer interest is relatively low. It was at around 3000 spectators / game in 2007/08. However, it should be noted that Slovakia has only 5.5 million inhabitants. The clubs sell their players to financially stronger clubs from Western Europe. Examples of players who have been successful in notable leagues are Marek Hamšík, captain of the Italian club SSC Napoli, Peter Pekarík, captain of the Bundesliga club Hertha BSC, or Martin Škrtel, a well-known former Liverpool center-back currently playing for Fenerbahçe. In addition, in recent years, more and more young players have been given the opportunity to play regularly in the league and, as a result, many transfers have been made. For example, Leon Bailey, Milan Škriniar, Stanislav Lobotka or Samuel Kalu were recently seen in Slovak stadiums playing football.

Record champion is ŠK Slovan Bratislava with eight silverware. Second is MŠK Žilina with 7 titles.

The second-rate football league in Slovakia is called 2nd league, in which 16 teams compete against each other. The third league (3rd league) consists of four divisions, of which three (Division East, Division Central and Division Bratislava) consist of 16 teams and the other (Division West) of 18 teams.

In 2010, MŠK Žilina was the third Slovak club to participate in the Champions League and retire in the group stage.
